Purpose and lawful basis for processing

Our purpose for processing your personal data is to provide you with information on our activities, to let you know about upcoming events, and to sell you books. The lawful basis we rely on for the processing is either your consent or our legitimate interest.

What data do we use?

In order to send you our newsletter(s) we need your e-mail address.

In order to sell you books we need additional data to process your payment and, in the case of phsyical copies, an address to which to send the books.

How do we collect your data?

We collect email addresses from you either when you subscribe to the newsletter(s), when you give your consent when buying a book from our bookstore, or when you give your consent in person to us at an event.

We collect personal and payment data when you purchase a book through our bookstore.

If you puchase a book from us an an event, only payment data is collected.

How do we use your data?

We use your data to send you our newsletter(s). We also gather statistics around email opening and clicks using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve our e-newsletter.

Payment data is used to process your payment. Personal data is used to mail books to you. See the privacy policy at the bookstore for further details of what data is kept.

How long we keep your data?

We keep your data for the purpose of sending you our newsletter(s) for as long as you have not withdrawn your consent or objected to such processing of your data.

Payment data is not stored, except if you use PayPal in which case you PayPal account name will be stored in our PayPal records.

Personal data for sending books is kept as part of the bookstore accounting data, but can be deleted on request.

What are your rights?

Where we rely on your consent to our processing your personal data for sending you newsletter(s) and book(s), you have the right to withdraw your consent. Where we rely on our legitimate interest, you can object to the processing of your personal data for this purpose at any time. If at any point you want to withdraw your consent or object to the processing, you should either click the “unsubscribe” link in the newsletter or send us an email. If you do that, we will update our records immediately to reflect your wishes.

Do we use any data processors?

We use MailerLite to send our newsletters. You can find MailerLite’s privacy policy here. We share your email address with them to allow them to do this.

We use PayPal and Square to process payments via the bookstore. See the respective links for their privacy policies.
