Description

Sherlock Holmes is frustrated. His mind is as sharp as ever, but his body, well… old age.

His doctors have recommended that he retire to Mars, where the lower gravity will be easier on him, and he’ll be away from the bustle of London. But for a man like Holmes there is no let up in the demand for his services.

In a strange new world, with Dr Watson and Mrs Hudson long since having departed this life, Holmes must make new friends. What he needs is a bright young lad who can be his eyes and ears, and go where he cannot.

And so, for one young orphan Marsport boy, life will never be the same again.

Book one of the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes in the Red Raj.

Reviews

“It’s very much as if the Boys Own Paper did Holmes fanfic: it’s from Christian’s point of view and he gets to tear around flying airships, chasing baddies across rooftops, and eating lavishly described meals which are inches from including lashings of ginger beer. Except this is Chaz Brenchley so there is an eternal queasy undercurrent of all the stuff we’re not explicitly talking about, like the near-slavery conditions, and the racism, and the classism, and the imperialism, and the often violent exploitation of children, including sexually, and the adults who know and don’t care. Basically ‘what if classic mid20th century kidlit on Mars, but the veil over the violence inherent in the system is thinner than cheap toilet paper’.” — KJ Charles on Goodreads
